Shelly Yankovskyy is a professor of Anthropology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice. She is also a faculty member in the Native American and Indigenous Studies Program. Much of her early research was focused on mental health. During her Master’s level research at the University of South Florida, her research focused on the mental health system in the U.S., focusing on the issues identified by service providers. She built on this research for her Ph.D. dissertation where she conduced original ethnographic research of the political-economic dimensions of the mental health system in Ukraine. In this research she interviewed both service providers and patients. Her work currently continues to focus on mental health, with additional interests in topics on indigenous studies, environment, food, religion. Additionally, she has led study abroad programs to Ecuador, and Poland. She is the author of:
